Tazewell County stabbing investigated

BISHOP, Va. — A man was stabbed multiple times Thursday in the Bishop community, according to the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 7:32 a.m. of a stabbing on Harvest Road in Bishop, Capt. David Mills said.

Mills said Roger Billips, 59, of Bishop, had been assaulted and stabbed numerous times. Mills said a woman at the residence also was threatened at knifepoint.

Mills said Christopher Baldwin, 36, of Bishop, was apprehended by deputies near the Virginia Hillbilly Market in Bishop where he was charged with aggravated malicious wounding.

Billips was transported to Tazewell Community Hospital.

“The last time I checked he was in stable condition at Tazewell Community Hospital,” Mills said.

Mills said the stabbing was the apparent result of an argument between the two men over money and prescription medication.

Mills said Baldwin was being held without bond Thursday in the Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell. Mills said Baldwin could be arraigned today on the aggravated malicious wounding charge.

The Tazewell County Fire and Rescue Squad responded to the incident Thursday.
