Second Chance announces summer concert performers

BLUEFIELD — Organizers with the Second Chance Rocks the Two Virginias concert announced the much-anticipated 2013 concert lineup Monday.

According to Erik Robinson, executive director of the Second Chance Learning Center, country music artists Justin Moore, Craig Campbell, Shooter Jennings and Clare Dunn with special guest DJ Silver will take the stage on Saturday, June 29, at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield. Logan County resident Kayla Sloane has been selected as one of two local acts.

“We are thrilled with who we have right now,” Robinson said. “We aren’t done with it though.”

Robinson plans to add a few more bands to the line up. He is excited about the addition of Silver, who will provide entertainment between acts. Moore, Campbell and Jennings are all familiar names in country music, while Dunn is a new female artist.

Many West Virginians will recognize Sloane from an online video that was posted and shared on social media. A customer posted a video of Sloane signing at Walmart. Since then, the 21-year-old cashier has performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., and will travel with country music star Dierks Bentley to the Academy of Country Music awards on Sunday.

“She is a great story and she is a really nice girl,” Robinson said.

This year’s concert will once again feature a family section, VIP packages, a gala at Fincastle on the Mountain and an after-party. Tickets go on sale on April 15. Seating on the floor, outside the VIP area, is general admission. Ticket holders can bring one chair per person. Tickets are $35. Bleacher seating is reserved. Gates will open at noon.

This year’s concert took longer to plan due to financial concerns and artist availability. The organization took a hit after a storm canceled much of the first 2012 concert. A second concert was held two months later.

“Last year, the second concert really hurt us. But so many of our sponsors came through for us like Tazewell County and town of Bluefield, Va.,” Robinson said.

The concert raises money for the Second Chance Learning Center and other community organization in the two Virginias.
