Brainerd’s Gallery going back to where it started 28 years ago

BLUEFIELD — After 28 years in the same location, the Brainerd Gallery will be moving to a new location.

“We will be going back to where we first started at the Bluefield Area Art Center,” Betty Brainerd said.

According to Brainerd, Bluefield Regional Medical Center currently owns the building on Bluefield Avenue, and the building has been sold.

“We are not sure who bought it, but we do have to be out of the building by April 30,” Brainerd said.

The Brainerds are in the process of renovating the new space they will occupy with hopes of being in their new gallery before the end of April.

“Right now we are just trying to get all of our ducks in a row and get things ready to go,” Brainerd said.

Both Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director Marc Meachum and Bluefield Assistant City Manager Josh Cline said last week they didn’t know who purchased the building that currently houses the Brainerd’s — and what the future plans for it are.

The sale of the building is still in negotiations and no information is being released at this time, according to Bluefield Police Chief and Interim City Manager Dennis Dillow.
