WAR — An investigation was underway Tuesday to determine the cause of a fire that injured three McDowell County residents late Monday night.

The War Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched after the McDowell County 911 Center received a call about a structure fire in the Caretta area near War, a 911 dispatcher said.

Three people at the home were injured in the fire, the dispatcher said. One woman was transported by the McDowell County Ambulance Authority to the Mount View High School football field near Welch. From there, she was flown by helicopter to a hospital outside the region, the dispatcher said.

The two individuals from inside the house were transported to Welch Community Hospital.

The fire’s cause remained under investigation Tuesday by the War Volunteer Fire Department. Members of the fire department were not available for additional comment.
