A combined strike force made up of troopers of the West Virginia State Police, an officer with the state Division of Natural Resources and three McDowell County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant early Sunday morning that resulted in the seizure of a large catch of drugs, money and two arrests.
Police arrested two females — Rhonda Harvey, 34, of Welch and Raquel Adams, 26, of Havaco — following the execution of a search warrant at an Oak Street residence in the Welch city limits. Police seized $2,500 worth of crack cocaine (18 grams), along with $4,384 in cash, according to Trooper J.R. Coburn of the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
“Myself and troopers J.C. Mann and J.K. Weiss have been investigating suspected illegal drug activity centered around the Oak Street residence,” Coburn said. “After a lengthy investigation, we obtained a search warrant, and executed it at 3 a.m. (Sunday) morning.
“We were assisted in executing the search warrant by Officer J.D. Lambert of the West Virginia DNR, and deputies K.N. Wright, R.L. Jones and M.D. Purtee and his K-9 partner, Titan, of the McDowell County Sheriff’s office,” Coburn said.
Coburn said he charged Harvey with possession with the intent to deliver crack cocaine, misdemeanor unlawful possession of a controlled substance (suboxone), and conspiracy to commit a felony. He said that he charged Adams with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance (xanax), and conspiracy to commit a felony.
“Both suspects have been taken to the McDowell County Jail where they are awaiting their arraignment before a magistrate,” Coburn said.
Coburn expressed his thanks to all of the officers who assisted in executing the search warrant and to K-9 Titan for his participation in conducting the search warrant.
