Several Bluefield residents awoke to the sound of gunfire early Friday morning as an unknown shooter or shooters fired shots on multiple streets.
Shots were fired at four different locations — Union Street, Rogers Street, Bluefield Avenue and Carolina Avenue. No one was outside at the time of the shootings, Lt. C.S. Myers of the Bluefield Police Department said.
Michael Mitchell, a resident of Union Street, said he was awakened by four to five gun shots around 4:30 a.m. He looked out his windows but did not see anything.
“This is not the normal activity for this neighborhood,” Mitchell said.
A second resident of Union Street, who wished to remain anonymous, said she saw a vehicle pull up around 4:25 a.m. and multiple individuals exit the vehicle. She then heard shots fired and the vehicle left the area.
Bullets struck several windows and bullet holes could be seen in the exterior walls of some homes. There were no reports of any injuries.
Myers said officials have a description of the vehicle and are actively looking for it.
The case is still under investigation.
