NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — A local road was closed late Thursday morning after fire broke out at a pallet company’s building.

The fire was reported approximately 11:30 a.m. on Lick Branch Road in Baptist Valley, according to Assistant Chief John Brown of Tazewell County Fire and Rescue. The building belonged to L. Smith Pallet.

No injuries were reported, but the building was a total loss, Brown said. The cause of the fire had not been determined Thursday.

Units with the Bandy Volunteer Fire Department, Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, DAD Volunteer Fire Department, and Richlands Fire and Rescue joined Tazewell County Fire and Rescue at the scene.

Firefighters worked on the scene for two to three hours while deputies with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office blocked the road and controlled traffic.

“It’s a little narrow road, and the building was right beside the road,” Brown said.
