Forecasters say sleet, freezing rain, will turn to all snow this afternoon

BLUEFIELD — A dangerous combination of sleet, freezing rain and snow is making for hazardous travel conditions this morning.

A winter storm warming remains in effect through 7 p.m. for the entire region. Forecasters say the sleet and freezing rain should change to all snow by afternoon. Snowfall accumulations could vary across the region, but between 2 to 5 inches of snowfall is expected for Mercer, Tazewell and Bland counties. Other areas, including McDowell, Buchanan and Raleigh counties could see between 4 to 8 inches of snow today.

Temperatures will fall into the 20s during the afternoon. And the mercury will plunge to 8 degrees tonight.
