'Buckwild' canceled after Shain Gandees death

Associated Press

— 'Buckwild,' the MTV reality series set in Sissonville, W.Va., has been canceled after the death of cast member Shain Gandee, multiple entertainment news outlets are reporting.

TMZ first reported the cancellation.

Gandee was found dead a week ago along with two others after a night of mudding. Their SUV became stuck in a mudpit and the muffler was covered by mud. Officials said the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.

His funeral was attended by hundreds of people wearing camouflage in his honor.

"Buckwild" was originally renewed for a second season in early February, after averaging 3 million viewers per episode.

"We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident," MTV said in a statement after the news broke. "We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly."
