Flash flood watch issued for much of the region

BLUEFIELD — A flash flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the region, including Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Bland and Giles counties.

The flash flood watch is in effect from midnight tonight through late Thursday night.

An average of one to three inches of rain is expected during the time period, according to the watch. The heavy rain may initially prompt flash flooding of small creeks and streams. And a flooding of larger river basins may be possible, according to forecasters.

Parts of northern West Virginia also are under a tornado watch through 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
