When a train crossing’s lights announced an incoming locomotive, a woman and her passengers abandoned a vehicle stuck on the tracks before it was destroyed.
The incident happened at 11:53 p.m. Saturday when a red Kia Forte became stuck on railroad tracks in Northfork, according to Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the West Virginia State Police detachment in Welch.
“The car was occupied by three young females, two who were 17 and one 18. The driver stated she was attempting to cross the railroad crossing there and the vehicle became hung on the tracks,” Gillespie said. “The lights started flashing, indicating a train was coming, and they got scared and ran.”
The car had major damage and the train engine had minor damage, Gillespie said. The case was still under investigation Monday.
