Two men arrested in Raven Elementary School B&E

TAZEWELL, Va. — Two arrests were made Tuesday after tips on Facebook and Twitter led the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office to a pair of suspects.

An investigation started Monday morning after personnel at Raven Elementary School discovered that somebody had entered the school. Deputies performed a security check in the school, and detectives obtained video footage from the school’s security camera.

The video showed two subjects in the school early Monday morning. A back window had been broken, and the suspects went through the building and broke into offices and vending machines.

Mark Anthony Davis, 32, and Jeffery Ryan Hill, 28, both of Doran Bottom, were arrested Tuesday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Both Davis and Hill have been charged with felonies including breaking and entering in the nighttime and grand larceny, and a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property.

Davis was being held Tuesday at the Southwest Regional Jail Authority, Tazewell facility, on a $5,000 bond. Hill had just been taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office thanked the public for the Facebook and Twitter tips that led to the arrests.

“This was truly a community effort to bring both of these individuals to justice,” said Sheriff Brian Hieatt. “The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Division, worked tirelessly over the past 24 hours to bring this case to fruition and make these arrests. These detectives have performed in an exceptional manner and our community should be proud of the work they have done.”

A number of stolen items have been recovered. Anyone with information on the missing items is asked to contact Detective Taylor Quillen with the Sheriff’s Office at 276-988-1169. The items recovered included a camera, rolled coin, loose coins, two Midland portable radios with charger and the suspects’ clothing.
