Suspect held for child porn

BLUEFIELD — A Mercer County man was being held Wednesday night at Bluefield city jail, awaiting his arraignment on allegations of 109 counts of receiving and possessing material visually portraying a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.

David A. Punturi, 53, a resident of the Bluewell-Montcalm area was arrested on Wednesday after Detective Cpl. S.A. Sommers of the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at Punturi’s residence, according to a press release issued by Mercer County Sheriff D.B. “Don” Meadows.

Cpl. Sommers was assisted in executing the search warrant by additional Mercer County deputies, and ICAC investigators from the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office’s Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Meadows expressed his appreciation to Sommers and the West Virginia ICAC task force, as well as the Southern Virginia ICAC task force, “for a job well done,” according to the press release. “I applaud their continued efforts in investigating these crimes,” Meadows was quoted as stating.

Sommers is a detective with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department who is assigned to the West Virginia ICAC Task Force. He said the investigation is on-going.
