BARTLEY —  A local man is facing charges including wanton endangerment, malicious wounding and other charges after allegedly holding his wife against her will after he shot and beat his wife.

Deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched approximately 2:30 p.m. today after McDowell 911 received a complaint about a shooting in the Bartley area.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Daren Eugene Wood, 48, of Bartley had allegedly shot and beaten his 44-year-old wife two days earlier and held her against her will without medical treatment, said Sgt. James E. Muncy.

The woman, whose name was not being released at this time, was transported to Welch Community Hospital.

Wood is being held at the McDowell County Holdiing Unit pending arraignment, Muncy said. He is being charged with wanton endangerment, malicious wounding, domestic battery, domestic assault and brandishing.
