ROCKY GAP, Va. —
A region-wide manhunt for a suspect in a multi-state crime spree that included an alleged murder in Mount Airy, N.C., and several area robberies, came to a close early Saturday morning when troopers of the Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshal Service and Bland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Robert Berry, 28, at a manufactured home in Rocky Gap. Sgt. Michael T. Conroy of the Virginia State Police said that Berry was arrested “without incident,” and was awaiting transport to the New River Regional Jail in Pulaski, Va., later this morning. In addition to the U.S. Marshals and Bland authorities, Conroy also expressed thanks to the law enforcement officers of Mercer County — the state police and sheriff’s deputies — who aided in the apprehension. His alleged accomplice, Sarah Lynn Looney, 24, of Bluefield, remains in custody at the Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell, Va. For more on this story and other news, see Sunday’s Daily Telegraph.
