Judge rules evidence is admissible in case of Mercer County man facing child pornography charges

PRINCETON — A circuit court judge has ruled today that evidence found during a search and text messages in the case of a Mercer County man facing more than 50 charges, including possession of child pornography, are admissible.

The trial of John Spaulding, 40, of Montcalm, had been set for Jan. 22. Circuit Court Judge William Sadler scheduled the trial for Feb. 4 so both the defense and the prosecution will have more time to examine evidence in the case.

Spaulding was arrested in October 2013 and charged with five counts of sexual assault first degree, one count of attempt to commit a felony, one count of sexual abuse first degree, and 50 counts of possession of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The two victims were ages 3 and 14, Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash said in an earlier interview.
