Officials seek public’s assistance in locating convicted sex offender

PRINCETON — Law enforcement officials are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a convicted sex offender now wanted on multiple felony counts for failing to update his sex offender registration.

Mark Fleming, 47, originally of the Princeton area, was released from prison in November of last year, Cpl. J.C. Long, with the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment, said.

“He registered with me on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013,” Long said. “He was staying in a local motel. He was advised he was supposed to report any changes in address to me. He stayed in the motel three days and I haven’t seen him since.”

Long said Fleming was previously convicted of child abuse with risk of injury sexually motivated. “His victim in this case was a minor child, and he is required to register for life.”

Fleming served “just a couple of years” for the crime, Long said.

Long said Fleming is currently wanted on three felony counts of failure to register. He was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system on Dec. 3.

Fleming is 6 foot, 3 inches tall, and weighs about 250 pounds. Long said it is believed he could possibly still be in the Mercer County area.

“Do not approach him,” Long said. “He could possibly be armed and dangerous.”

Anyone with information on Fleming’s whereabouts is asked to contact the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment at 304-425-2101.
