Man sentenced for solicitation

PRINCETON — A Russell County, Va., man received a four-to-20-year prison sentence in Mercer County Circuit Court on Thursday for his conviction on two counts involving the computer solicitation and use of a minor in producing sexually explicit materials.

John Reynolds, 39, of Honaker, Va., had pleaded guilty to one count of using a minor in the filming of sexually explicit materials and a second count of soliciting a minor by use of a computer, according to Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ash.

“The victim, a female who was 16 years old at the time the crimes were committed, was of the age of consent in West Virginia, but the age for engaging in the production of sexually explicit material and computer solicitation is 18,” Ash said. “The defendant was facing some other counts, but pleaded guilty to the two counts.”

Mercer County Circuit Court Judge Omar Aboulhosn gave Reynolds two, two-10-year sentences to be served consecutively, “one after another,” Ash said.

“The court also sentenced him to 20 years of extended supervised release, but that’s true of almost all defendants who are convicted of these types of crimes,” Ash said.

According to Ash, Reynolds was a friend of the parents of the victim.

Assistant Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Kelli Harshbarger represented the state in the case and Greg Ball represented the defendant.
