Mercer County firefighters battled a structure fire at a Kegley area residence early Sunday morning. Although the residence was occupied, firefighters determined that there was no one in the residence at the time of the fire.
“The initial report that we received was that someone was in the residence,” Lt. Aaron Beeman of the East River Volunteer Fire Department said. “After a thorough search of the structure, we were able to determine that it was not occupied.” Beeman served as incident commander of the fire.
“We were paged out to the fire at about 12:30 a.m. (Sunday) morning,” Beeman said. “We responded with two units. The Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department, Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department and the Princeton Rescue Squad also responded in support.”
