Man dies in two-vehicle crash

GRUNDY, Va. — A man died Thursday after his vehicle ran off of U.S. Route 460 in Buchanan County and struck a parked vehicle.

The accident was reported at 7:30 a.m. on eastbound Route 460, approximately two tenths of a mile east of Route 680 near the Keen Mountain community. Jack Jennings Ward, 72, of Pilgrims Knobb, died following the crash, according to a report by Trooper G. Crouse of the Virginia State Police.

Ward was the operator of a 2004 Honda Civic that ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck an unoccupied vehicle that was parked off of the main highway.

A passenger in the 2004 Honda Civic was injured. The condition and identity of the passenger wasn’t immediately available Thursday.

Ward died at the scene of the accident, according to the report.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Crouse.

The Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department and Mercy Ambulance Service responded to the accident. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control on Route 460.
