Little Jimmie fund meets goal for party on Saturday

BLUEFIELD — Donations Thursday of $1,780 helped to push the 2013 Community Christmas Tree campaign over the top thus ensuring a joyous Christmas for more than 800 youngsters in our region who would otherwise go without.

The stage is now set for Saturday’s Little Jimmie party at the city auditorium in Bluefield. The celebration begins at noon. Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive around 12:20 p.m., and  the hundreds of red bags stuffed full of toys and other goodies will be distributed beginning at 12:30 p.m.

“We are so appreciative of the generosity of our readers,” Community Christmas Tree chair and Daily Telegraph Editor Samantha Perry said. “Thanks to the overwhelming kindness of so many near and far, we are confident that we will once again be able to help ensure a merry Christmas for more than 800 children in our region.”

Contributions Thursday of $1,780 brought this year’s campaign total to date to $30,088. The campaign goal was $30,000. This marks the 96th year that readers of the Daily Telegraph have helped to push the Little Jimmie campaign over the top.

Sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, the Community Christmas Tree — also known as the Little Jimmie campaign — provides toys, treats, a book, toboggan, a pair of gloves and other goodies to hundreds of local children in need each year.

Those who would like to contribute to the Community Christmas Tree program can mail donations to: Bluefield Daily Telegraph, c/o Community Christmas Tree, P.O. Box 1599, Bluefield, WV, 24701; or drop them off at the Daily Telegraph office. Checks should be made payable to the Community Christmas Tree Fund.
