WELCH — Four more subjects were taken in custody Thursday as the result of a warrant round up conducted by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

McDowell County Sheriff Martin West said four additional subjects were arrested in connection with Wednesday’s warrant round up, which netted seven individuals.

West said the four individuals arrested Thursday included a married couple: James Edward Addair, 48, and Karen Susan Addair, 45, of both of Welch. West said the couple came to the sheriff’s department to turn themselves in.

James Addair was arrested on three counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance while Karen Addair was arrested on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance.

Both James and Karen Addair were arraigned before Magistrate Danny Mitchell with bonds set at $45,000 each.

Two other individuals arrested at 9 a.m. Thursday included Jacob Moore, 32, of War on one count of delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance and Robert Lee Payne, 26, of Bartley, on three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Moore was arraigned by Magistrate Richard VanDyke, who set bond at $25,000 while Payne appeared before Mitchell who set his bond at $75,000.

Sgt. James E. Muncy said additional arrests are forthcoming. West said conducting drug round ups are a continuous process for his department.

“It is a never-ending process down here,” he said. “As soon as we finish one set of arrests, we are starting to work on the next.”

The subjects arrested on Thursday were part of a drug sweep the sheriff’s department announced Wednesday following a warrant round up. Deputies began the operation at 9 a.m. in the Big Creek District of McDowell County as part of investigations by the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force. Muncy reported the investigations have been going on for six months or more.
