BRAMWELL — A Mercer County woman driving down U.S. Route 52 sustained minor injuries this morning when a tree suddenly toppled and hit her car.

Elizabeth Cooper, 42, of the Bluefield area, was traveling north approximately 8 a.m.  on Route 52 when a tree on the highway’s west side suddenly fell and struck her SUV’s windshield, said Sgt. C.F. Kane of the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment. The accident was near the Mercer-McDowell County line. Cooper had minor injuries.

“It’s just coincidental she was passing by when it fell,” Kane said.

The Bluefield Rescue Squad treated Cooper, but she was not transported, he said. Why the tree fell was not known Tuesday.
