Princeton man charged with slitting throat of neighbor

PRINCETON — A Mercer County man was arrested Saturday and charged with slitting the throat of a neighbor after a discussion between the two men soured Friday night.

Roy Lee Williams, 41, of Princeton, was taken into custody at about 8 a.m. Saturday morning and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, malicious wounding and armed robbery, according to state police.

State police were called to a residence on LJ Street in Princeton at 9 p.m., Friday night in response to a report of a 67-year-old male who had been injured at a previous event. When troopers arrived on the scene, they found an excessive amount of blood in the bathroom and in other parts of the house.

“It was a messy scene,” Trooper D.C. Graham of the Princeton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police said. Graham said that the suspect allegedly used a knife to slit the throat of the victim. Graham stated that the incident stemmed from “a discussion” between the two men, but said he is still investigating the case.

The victim, who was not identified, was transported Friday night to Princeton Community Hospital where he remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

Graham said that as a result of the investigation, police “recovered a substantial amount of evidence,” although he did not reveal details about the nature of the evidence recovered.

Williams was arraigned on the charges Saturday afternoon and was set to be transported to Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
