A preliminary investigation indicates lightning may have been the cause of a minor apartment fire in Princeton early Wednesday morning.
Lt. Aaron Beaman with the East River Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched at 4:55 a.m. to the Princeton Village Apartment complex where a fire was reported in the attic of one of the apartments.
“There are multiple buildings in the complex, but there was only a single apartment in a single building that caught fire,” Beaman said. “There was minor damage. The main damage was to the exterior, though there was some interior damage in the attic. We think lightning could be the cause, but it is still under investigation. We are not ruling anything out.”
Beaman said the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted to help further the investigation.
