They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend — right? Well on TLC’s popular television show “Toddlers and Tiaras” it’s all glitz and glam for these young girls and boys competing in pageants.
For one young Bluefield girl, it isn’t just all about the crowns or fame, it is about being a kid.
Kate Sheets, 4, of Bluefield will debut today on TLC’s “Toddlers and Tiaras.” The show focuses on the world of beauty pageants for children. It follows a pageant participant from preparations to the actual pageant and shows in which the child competes.
Sheets has been competing in pageants since she was 9-months-old. “We put her in a local pageant and she won,” Jessica Sheets, Kate’s mother said. “After that we kind of got sucked in.”
Kate Sheets has won many supreme titles and personality titles during her three-plus years in the pageant world. Her room is filled with trophies, tiaras and sashes — so many that her parents have had to store them in the garage and a storage unit.
Although Kate has competed in many pageants, her parents are not pushing her to compete. “If she wants to do them, we let her do them. If she doesn’t then we don’t force it,” her mother said.
The Sheets appear to be just a laid back, normal family. In almost every respect, Kate is a typical 4-year-old. She loves chicken nuggets and her favorite show is “Scooby Doo.” Kate has many talents and said she loves to sing.
Sheets made such a good impression on the organizers of “Toddlers and Tiaras” that she was selected to also appear on “The Steve Harvey Show” which will also air today.
“Kate filmed well and had a lot of personality on camera,” Jessica Sheets said. “TLC flew us up to Chicago for the taping of “The Steve Harvey Show.”
Kate will continue to do pageants, when she wants to. She always seems to do extremely well when she competes, her mother said.
