Police capture Bluewell armed robbery suspect

BLUEWELL — A Mercer County man is in custody in connection with the robbery of the Dollar General Store in Bluewell.

Christopher Lee Small, 24, of Bluefield is currently in custody at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver in lieu of $50,000 bail after being charged in connection with the Sunday evening robbery of the store. Small has been charged with armed robbery, brandishing a weapon, and transferring stolen goods, according to Trooper W.H. File with the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment.

File said Small was arrested after troopers and deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office found him on Route 20 near Bluewell in the blue Ford Taurus that had been described leaving the scene of the robbery. Small was arrested by Cpl. P.H. Shrewsbury with the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment.

File said Small is the only suspect that has been arrested in connection with the robbery.

Law enforcement officers were disptached to the store in Bluewell shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday following reports than an armed assailant had held up the store.

Officers said the suspect was seen leaving in a blue Ford Taurus, which was believed to have been parked at the Advance Auto Parts store next to the Dollar General.

The amount of money taken during the robbery was not released. Shrewsbury previously told the Daily Telegraph the suspect was not masked but was “wearing a hat” during the time of the robbery.
