McDowell grand jury hands down list of indictments

WELCH — A list of indictments including charges ranging from operating a meth lab to enticement of a prisoner was handed down this week by the McDowell County grand jury.

The 62 indictments contain a variety of offenses. Timothy Stone, 52, of Warriormines was indicted on one count of operating a clandestine lab, one count of felony conspiracy and one count of child neglect creating a risk of injury. Thomas Perkins, 35, also of Warriormines, was charged with a count of operating a clandestine lab and felony conspiracy.

Stone and Perkins were arrested in mid-January after the War Police Department responded to a call at 59 Jr. Poca Hill and discovered a working meth lab. The officers asked for assistance from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, which then contacted the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

On March 21, McDowell County deputies and members of the drug task force found an active meth lab in an abandoned trailer near War. Stone was arrested a second time for operating a meth lab; this resulted in a second indictment for operating a clandestine lab and felony conspiracy.
