Lunch with mayor program serves up ‘very productive feedback’ from residents

BLUEFIELD — Innovative ideas have been on the menu during the lunch with the mayor program in Bluefield.

Mayor Tom Cole had the idea a few months back to give residents the chance to provide feedback in a one-on-one or small group setting over lunch.

“I have had some very productive feedback,” Cole said.

For example, someone brought up the idea of doing a better job keeping up with the rental properties and inspections that the city requires, Cole said.

“We are in the process of hiring another code enforcement officer so we can do a better job of staying on top of the rental property,” Cole said.

Cole said different topics of discussion are brought up at the meetings. “It’s nice to be able to shed light on different subjects,” Cole said.

“I have also been able to have lunch with the Kings Warrior Director Mike Mara about how the city can benefit from having the semi-pro soccer team based in Bluefield,” Cole said.

Other thoughts about the beautification of Bluefield have been mentioned, along with several people pointing out individual concerns.

“I really want to encourage people to get involved with the city they live in and take advantage of these meetings. The board and I are here to listen and help in anyway we can,” Cole said.

If you would like to have lunch with the mayor, please contact Josh Cline at city hall or visit to sign up.
