PRINCETON — A West Virginia registered sex offender has been charged with sexual abuse in the first degree after assaulting a local woman.

According to Princeton Police Chief J.W. Howell, Princeton resident Larry Bourne, 60, of 1133 Mercer St., was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Friday.

Bourne is listed on the West Virginia sex offender registry. He was convicted of burglary of habitation with intent to commit first-degree rape in the state of Texas in 1978. The registry states Bourne served 10 years. In 1987, he was arrested again for attempted sexual assault and served 15 years in a correctional facility.

“Bourne was placed on probation in April of 1993,” Howell said.

Howell said Bourne is being held at the Southern Regional Jail. Det. B.E. Grimm with the Princeton Police Department is in charge of the investigation.

Howell did not release the name of the victim. Other charges against Bourne could be pending, Howell added.
