Three indicted in Bluefield Pill Initiative

BLUEFIELD — Federal authorities unsealed one indictment on Thursday, to go with two other indictments on defendants in the Bluefield Pill Initiative.

Michael Devon Harmon, 36, of Princeton, was named in a four-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury that met on Feb. 11, in Beckley. The indictment remained sealed until Thursday.

The indictment alleges that on or about July 24, 2013, Harmon distributed a quantity of hydromorphone at or near Princeton. Count two of the indictment alleges that Harmon distributed a quantity of cocaine on July 25, 2013, at or near Princeton, and count three alleges that on July 29, 2013, at or near Princeton, Harmon distributed a quantity of hydromorphone. The fourth count alleges that on July 31, 2013, Harmon distributed a quantity of cocaine. No trial dates have been set as of Thursday evening.

Two other defendants, who were named in indictments that were returned by a federal grand jury meeting in Beckley, had their initial appearances before U.S. Magistrate Judge R. Clarke VanDervort on Feb. 18, in Bluefield.

Jimmy Dale Wright, 56, of Rock, was named in a three-count indictment, alleging in count one that on Aug. 7, 2013, he distributed a quantity of hydromorphone at or near Lashmeet. Count two alleges that on Aug. 19, 2013, also at or near Lashmeet, Wright distributed a quantity of hydromorphone. Count three alleges that on Aug. 19, 2013, Wright distributed a quantity of hydromorphone.

VanDervort scheduled Wright’s arraignment/detention hearing for 10:30 a.m. in Beckley. Assistant U.S. Attorney John File represented the government and Assistant Federal Public Defender George H. Lancaster Jr., represented Wright.

Elijah Andul Jones, 35, of Bluefield, was also named in a three-count federal indictment. Counts one and two allege that on July 23, 2013, at or near Bluefield at 12:46 p.m. and 4:56 p.m. respectively, Jones distributed a quantity of crack. Count three of the indictment alleges that on Oct. 10, 2013 that Jones distributed a quantity of heroin at or near Bluefield.

VanDervort scheduled Jones’ arraignment/detention hearing for 10:30 a.m. also on Feb. 25, in Beckley. File represented the government in the case, and Lancaster is representing the defendant.
