Propane truck overturns in McDowell

WAR — Emergency crews in McDowell County responded Tuesday morning after a propane truck went over an embankment in the vicinity of War Mountain.

No leaks or injuries were reported after the accident, Senior Trooper B.D. Gillespie of the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment said later.

“It was a propane truck backing up to make a private delivery and the bank gave way and it overturned,” Gillespie said. “The ambulance arrived on the scene and the driver was not transported to the hospital.”

The War Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched when the incident was reported at 11:38 a.m., according to a dispatcher with McDowell County 911. Initially there were reports of leaks, but responders learned later that propane had not escaped from the truck’s tank.

“It was just a major inconvenience for the driver,” Gillespie said.
