Coal truck strikes power line, knocks out electricity from Welch to Iaeger

WELCH — A coal truck struck a power pole Monday morning in McDowell County knocking out electricty from Welch to Iaeger. The coal truck then overturned into the river.

Deputy M.K. Shelton of the McDowell County Sheriff’s office responded to the accident  involving a 18-wheeler coal truck on U.S. Route 52 in Premier at 5:30 a.m., according to Sheriff Martin West.

 West said the truck overturned in the river but the cargo was empty. The driver was drug tested per his company policy and there were no injures, according to Sgt. J.E. Muncy, also with the sheriff’s office. The accident is still under investigation.
