Home rule program approved by Bluefield Board of Directors

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield Board of Directors approved to begin the application process for the home rule program.

The expanded home rule program affords cities in the Mountain State more power to identify state rules that may restrict their capability to perform municipal duties. It also provides cities greater flexibility in identifying effective solutions.

City Manager Jim Ferguson also reported that the ribbon cutting for the VA Mobile Health Clinic will be Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.

“The public is invited and encouraged to attend, and tours can be taken up to 1:30 p.m.,” Ferguson said.

Refreshments will be available, along with the medical team on site, Ferguson said.

Scheduling will start a week after the ribbon cutting. Appointments can only be made through the VA medical center in Beckley.

Any veteran that is registered or enrolled through the VA office in Beckley can make an appointment to be seen at the mobile health center. This includes all of Mercer and Tazewell counties, Ferguson said.

The board of directors meetings will also broadcast on Comcast channel 6 on Thursday at 7 p.m.
