1 transported to BRMC following accident

BLUEFIELD — One person was transported to a local hospital, but both drivers involved in a two-vehicle wreck on Cumberland Road at Bland Street Wednesday afternoon complained of head injuries, police said.

The male driver of an older model, four-door, gray Toyota Camry was transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center by the Bluefield Rescue Squad following the accident that was reported at 3:03 p.m.

Patrolman J.D. Shrewsbury of the Bluefield Police Department said the female driver of a black Chevy Captiva SUV, who decided not to be transported from the wreck, was at fault in the accident.

“Weather and road conditions were not a factor,” Shrewsbury said. “There was a male passenger in the Captiva, but he was not injured.”

The Chevy Captiva had a Tennessee license plate. Shrewsbury said the Captiva driver is from Tazewell County, Va., and that the driver of the Camry is from Mercer County. The names of the two drivers involved in the wreck were not immediately available.

In addition to police department and the rescue squad, firefighters with the Bluefield Fire Department also responded to the crash. Bluefield Animal Control Officer Randall Thompson assisted with traffic control at the crash scene.
