Winter storm watch issued for much of the region

BLUEFIELD — The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., has issued a winter storm watch for most of the region.

The watch is in effect for late tonight through Tuesday evening.

An alberta clipper is expected to move rapidly southeast today crossing the Ohio Valley tonight, and then strengthening as it sparks

the development of a winter storm along the mid Atlantic coast, according to the weather advisory. The storm will result in a six to 12 hour period of snow beginning Tuesday morning.

According to forecasters, snow is expected mainly along and north of U.S. Route 460. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches of snow are expected.

Forecasters say the snow will likely impact both the morning and evening commutes Tuesday. The snow could be heavy at times.
