New promotions materials and a new video premiered Tuesday at the monthly meeting of the Mercer County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The new video features scenes from the city of Bluefield, town of Bramwell, city of Princeton, the Princeton Railroad Museum, and outlines attractions such as local baseball teams, Civil War sites, the Chuck Mathena Center and the Pocahontas Exhibition Coal Mine. The new video will become part of the convention and visitor center’s web site, said Marie Blackwell, the center’s executive director.
In another effort to promote Mercer County’s tourism potential, Blackwell is making monthly appearances on the local Little Buddy Radio station operated by Dreama Denver, wife of the late Bob Denver of the television show “Gilligan’s Island.”
“January was the second month,” Blackwell said, encouraging people to listen to the programs.
Members of the center’s board of directors shared upcoming events in their area. Robert Farley, president of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, said actor Kevin Sizemore is the scheduled speaker Jan. 21 during the chamber’s annual dinner meeting at the Chuck Mathena Center. Farley said current work to revitalize Mercer Street is “one of the most exciting times” in the city for years. A recent New Year’s Eve celebration on Mercer Street was a success.
Marc Meachum, president of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber’s annual Mercer County Day at the Legislature in Charleston is now scheduled for Feb. 18. The chamber invites local people to visit the state capitol and discuss local issues with the area’s delegates and state senators.
“We were the first to do this 12 or 14 years ago,” Meachum recalled. “It’s a good opportunity to go up and meet your legislative people.”
