TAZEWELL, Va. —
Tazewell County’s new superintendent of schools was officially sworn in Monday.
Dr. Michaelene Meyer began her term as Tazewell County’s new school superintendent Monday following an official ceremony swearing her in at the Tazewell County Circuit Court. Former Tazewell County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brenda Lawson retired effective June 30, but Meyer said she has been working with Lawson and other school officials in the past weeks.
In addition to Meyer’s friends and family, Tazewell County School Board President Mike Dennis and Southern District member Randy Conn came to welcome Meyer to the school system during the ceremony. Representatives from local schools including Springville Elementary, Abbs Valley-Boissevain Elementary, Tazewell Middle School, Tazewell High School, North Tazewell Elementary and Raven Elementary were all present for the ceremony as well.
Meyer previously served as deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Manassas City Public Schools and her contract as superintendent of schools for Tazewell County lasts until June 30, 2016.
