Crash injures Bluefield man

BLUEFIELD — A 59-year-old Bluefield man narrowly escaped serious injury when the late model Dodge Ram pickup truck he was driving slipped off of North Mercer Street about 50 feet from the intersection with Carroll Street, and rolled into a wooded area about 35 feet from the road.

Patrolman J.D. Shrewsbury of the Bluefield Police Department said that the driver was not familiar with the sharp curve on the street. He said the driver appeared to be all right, but paramedics with the Bluefield Rescue Squad were evaluating him at the scene.

The Bluefield Fire Department as well as a crash truck and three ambulances with the Bluefield Rescue Squad responded. Patrolman A.L. Crook is investigating the wreck.
