Man decides to drop charges against attackers

HEMPHILL — The 24-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted in his home late at night on Independence Day, contacted state police on Sunday to say that he didn’t want to press charges against his two young men who broke his front window, busted his TV and beat him up.

“The victim called me today and said that the two young men came over to see him (on Sunday) and said they would replace his TV and fix the window and everything else in the house,” Trooper C.A. Dunn of the Welch detachment of the West Virginia State Police said. “He said that he made up with the two men and didn’t want to press charges.”

Dunn said he was going back to the man’s residence to record the victim’s statement.
