Search ongoing for robbery suspect

BLUEFIELD — Investigators are still seeking an individual who rode up to a local bank’s drive-through window and committed an armed robbery.

A search began early Monday morning after an unidentified man robbed the First Community Bank drive-through in downtown. The suspect presented a firearm and held a note up to the teller’s window demanding cash, Chief Dennis Dillow of the Bluefield Police Department said soon after the incident.

The suspect, wearing a black hoodie, black gloves and a black mask, fled on a black bicycle. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. Witnesses said the man fled east toward the intersection of Scott Street and Princeton Avenue. Officers with the Bluefield Police searched the areas of Scott and Monroe streets, and a Mercer County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit joined in the search.

Lt. D.A. Pennington with the Bluefield Police said Tuesday that Cpl. J.C. Whitt continued working on the case Monday night.

“We’re still following up leads,” Pennington stated.

Anyone with information can call the Bluefield Police Department at 304-327-6101.
