Man robs bank on bike

BLUEFIELD — Authorities are still searching for a man who robbed a local bank drive-through on a bicycle in downtown Bluefield Monday.

According to Bluefield Chief Police Dennis Dillow, an unidentified male robbed the Bluefield First Community Bank drive-through at 9:59 a.m.

“The man presented a firearm and held a note to the window demanding cash,”  Dillow said.

Lt. D.A. Pennington, with the Bluefield Police Department, said the suspect was carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

The man fled east, toward the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Scott Street.

“The man was wearing a black hoodie, black gloves and a black mask,” Dillow said. “The bicycle was also black.”

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit and the Bluefield Police Department searched Scott and Monroe streets for the suspect.

Authorities would not disclose the amount of cash taken.

Cpl. J.C. Whitt is in charge of the investigation.
