Third former CU football player pleads guilty to conspiracy

PRINCETON — A former Concord University football player who was arrested in November 2013 and charged with robbery and other offenses pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of conspiracy.

Miricco R. Sanders, 22, of Wellford, N.C., entered into the plea agreement with the state before Circuit Court Judge Derek Swope. The charge was in connection with a home invasion in the Athens area.

Two other former CU football players, Riyahd A. Richardson, 22, of Athens, and Russell Bailey, 22, of Beckley, pleaded guilty last month to conspiracy.

All three were originally indicted by the Mercer County grand jury on charges of robbery first degree, unlawful assault, wanton endangerment, and conspiracy.

All three were arrested in November 2013 after a robbery was reported in Athens near the campus.

A fight ensued at the residence during the home invasion and the victims had to be hospitalized, according to earlier reports by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office. A firearm was present in the residence, but it was not discharged during the fight. The victims reported that money and a gun were taken from the residence.
