Additional tetanus shots planned today for flood victims in McDowell County

WELCH — Health officials in McDowell County will be giving another round of tetanus shots Monday to victims of last week’s flooding in the Panther area.

The tetanus shots will be administered by the McDowell County Health Department beginning at 1 p.m. Monday at Betty’s Diner in Bull Creek, according to John Sidote, public information officer for the McDowell County 911 Center.

Sidote said the shots will continue throughout the day Monday until everyone is served.

In all, about 200 people have been helping with flood recovery efforts in the Panther, Mohawk and Bull Creek communities, including crews with the American Red Cross, the National Guard and volunteers from Greenbrier County.

“It’s really been a big effort,” Sidote said.
