Falling tree cuts power on Stadium Drive

BLUEFIELD — An oak tree on the south side of Stadium Drive in Bluefield fell across utility lines at about 12:10 p.m., today, knocking out power to 706 Appalachian Power Company customers in the Bluefield, Va., area.

Tim Blankenship, engineer on the Ridge Runner Train in Lotito Park, said that he had to get a generator to operate the electricity in the train depot so the Ridge Runner could continue transporting riders through the afternoon.

Power was restored at about 2:50 p.m.
