Boy Scouts still working on community service projects in Mercer, McDowell counties

PRINCETON — Click here to see video of Boys Scouting working at the East River Mountain Overlook:

Boy Scouts are again hard at work across the region today for the fourth day of the 2013 Boys Scouts of America National Jamboree Day of Service Initiative.

A troop from the Columbia, S.C. area found themselves working at the McNutt House in Princeton, cleaning up debris and building a new gazebo. Local residents driving by the scene honked their car horns and waved at the group as they passed by.

Robert Farley, executive director of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, said the troop had already accomplished a lot despite only being in Princeton for three hours.

“They are a good group of kids,” he said. “They have been very friendly. They have great personalities and they all just jumped right in. We have 36 kids here, so when you put them to work they get a lot done quickly.”

In Mercer County, scouts were also at work at the East River Mountain Overlook, New River Community and Technical College, and other locations. Scout troops were also working at in Landgraff and Welch in McDowell County.
