Community Christmas Tree fund more than $11,000 away from goal

BLUEFIELD — Donations Monday of $2,370 helped to boost the Community Christmas Tree campaign.

But with the big party now only 12 days away, the campaign is still $11,257 short of its $30,000 goal. Sponsored by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, the Community Christmas Tree — also known as the Little Jimmie campaign — provides toys, treats, a book, toboggan, a pair of gloves and other goodies to hundreds of local children in need each year.

Organizers expect to serve around 825 children at this year’s party on Saturday, Dec. 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the city auditorium on Stadium Drive in Bluefield. More than 700 children have already been registered for this year’s party. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph will continue to take last-minute referrals of children from other charities and health and human service agencies. It is anticipated that another 100 children will be registered for the program in the next week or so.

Those who would like to contribute to the Community Christmas Tree program can mail donations to: Bluefield Daily Telegraph, c/o Community Christmas Tree, P.O. Box 1599, Bluefield, WV, 24701; or drop them off at the Daily Telegraph office. Checks should be made payable to the Community Christmas Tree Fund.
