Sneeze leads to three-car wreck on Route 52

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEWELL — A violent sneeze brought about a chain-reaction crash Thursday afternoon while a car was waiting to turn off of U.S. Route 52.

The wreck occurred approximately 4:30 p.m. near Craven Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell. A Ford Malibu was waiting to make a left turn off the highway when the driver of a Jeep “violently sneezed,” said Deputy J.D. Gills of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. Her foot then hit the vehicle’s accelerator. The Jeep then hit a Nissan, and the Nissan struck the Ford.

One person, a 64-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital. Gills did not know his condition. The Bluewell Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
