Police seeking ‘suspicious’ white van

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office is watching for a white van with out-of-state license plates that has visited several communities.

“It’s a white van with a double-ball hitch on the back,” said Sheriff Brian Hieatt, adding the hitch was a type used for pulling large campers.

The van also had Mississippi tags that did not belong on that vehicle, Hieatt said. The van’s description has been posted on the sheriff office’s Facebook page.

It is not known if the van’s occupants have done anything wrong, but investigators would like to find the van in order to relieve residents’ suspicions, Hieatt said. One resident who approached the van and asked its occupants what they were doing was told they were looking for paving jobs.

“We’re trying to be proactive,” Hieatt said.
