Patriotic celebration coming to Chicory Square

BLUEFIELD — A patriotic All-American Celebration is returning to Chicory Square in downtown Bluefield this week with free hot dogs, free popcorn, free American flags, baseball and great music.

The celebration will get underway Friday at noon, and is being sponsored by Cole Chevrolet. The program will include free hot dogs provided by Cole Chevrolet and prepared by the Internet Cafe. Free popcorn also will be served, and members of the Bluefield Blue Jays will be on hand to sign autographs. Daily Telegraph Senior Editor Bill Archer will once again perform at this year’s All-American Celebration with singing partner Karl Miller. They plan to present a variety of patriotic music.

The program is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

“We try to support the events in the area that are positive,” Bluefield Mayor Tom Cole said. “That is the sentiment. This is our community, and this is where our business is and we want to support the good things going on in the area, and especially with our veterans.”

The All-American Celebration is a part of the Daily Telegraph’s weekly downtown Chicory Square Concert Series.

“We hope everyone will come out Friday,” Daily Telegraph Editor Samantha Perry said. “This is a great way to get an early start on patriotic celebrations across our region. It’s also a great opportunity for fun and fellowship. Seeing all of the people gathered downtown with American flags waving, and Bill and Karl performing, is just a tremendous experience.”

Perry said the All-American Celebration is made possible by the support of Cole Chevrolet, the Internet Cafe, Art Riley of the Bluefield Downtown Merchants Association, the Bluefield Blue Jays, Lynn and Carl Burnette, and others.

The activities get underway at 11:30 a.m. Friday with the arrival of the Bluefield Blue Jays at Chicory Square to sign autographs. Perry said the free hot dogs and popcorn will be available at that time so that everyone can get their food before the show begins. Archer and Miller will begin their musical performance at noon.

The weekly concert series is sponsored by the Daily Telegraph. In the event of inclement weather, changes regarding the concert will be announced on the Daily Telegraph’s website, www.bdtonline.com, and the newspaper’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/bdtonline.
